Frontier: Elite 2 is a Strategy game from 1993. Get it here.

Description

Elite was a good game and I was wondering when you could 'visit' the planets itself.
Well, Frontier was the answer after nearly 6 years. When I saw it I was perplexed. I think it was one of the first 'new' vector graphics games I saw. The gameplay of Frontier is in the beginning a bit confusing with the interface, but once you got used to it, it was very nice to play. The midi music is also quite alright, just as the first Elite. I never knew the goal of this kind of games, because you can explore and explore and explore. The 'sub'-quest where also quite alright.

@Shockrim Not true. The crowd funded Elite: Dangerous is currently being developed...

@Heath
There is literally no one in the world that can imitate Braben’s code, so Elite franchise is no more. All the games of the genre are just mineral water compared to the Series.

This one folks is like roleplaying in space, just multiplied by a billion.

Spent countless hours playing this on an Amiga all those years ago. It was quite literally endless and the freedom to do what you wanted was utterly ground breaking for the time.

The follow-up "First Encounters only shipped 100,000 copies though, because it was riddled with problems and eventually got pulled from shelves amid legal problems. There’s murmurs of an up to date game or "Elite 4" in the pipeline... we can but dream!

I’m now playing an OpenGL version that someone kindly made that works on Windows 7 \"^O^\"

Google GLFrontier for this, as links aren’t allowed on these comments...
