Shoot formations of aliens. Each time they touch the side of the screen they will come nearer to you. Once in a while an UFO flies over, if you shoot it down you'll get extra points.

You have it backwards. "Space Commanders" is a clone of the original classic Space Invaders. And a pretty awful clone at that.
