Deadlock - Planetary Conquest is a game created by Accolade in 1996 and is available for download.
Description
In deadlock you have to defeat your opponents on a planet. The game is turn based. You can build different kind of buildings (like simcity) but then on a predesitned grid; farms, housing, nuclear reactor, university, mining, etc.
In the meantime you can also invent stuff (which can take a few turns of course) A black market is also availalbe.
Nice thing is that you can select from about 8 different lifeforms to play the game, each with his own advantages.

This is a Windows game. Sometimes it should be run on an older Windows version or at least a 32-bit Windows. You could use VMware player (free) and install an older Windows on a virtual machine. e.g. I have installed my old Windows XP 32bit on VMware. More info on that you can find over here.
