Feel free to download Sidewinder; it was published by Arcadia Software in 1988.
Description
A nice old top scroll down action shooter. The game consists of several levels which you have to shoot your way through. There are actually not real end bosses which makes the game a bit different than the usual top down shooters. A nice feature in the game is that the play field is wider than what you see no the screen, moving to the left or right reveals even more territory. It appears there is no real end to this game; after level 6 it just starts over with level 1.

Now this has an interesting history. Arcadia was a company/project started by Mastertronic - the pioneer in UK budget games software back in the 8-bit days - that used modified Amiga hardware to make an arcade game system. It could be loaded up with different games, and Sidewinder was one of them. Another was ’Aaaargh!’, and maybe ’Ninja Mission’ was another. Anyhow, I think this was the best of the games, but the idea didn’t take off, the rest of the games weren’t much cop, most ended up being released cheaply on the Amiga. I didn’t know Sidewinder had made it to the PC also. |
